ARxIUM’s RIVA Produces Chemotherapy Medications at Humber River Hospital

North America’s First Fully Digital Hospital Features Most Advanced Healthcare Technology and Patient Treatment

(WINNIPEG, Manitoba – December 3, 2015) – ARxIUM, developer of industry-leading pharmacy automation and workflow solutions, today announced its RIVA technology is producing chemotherapy medications at the new Humber River Hospital in Toronto. Humber River, one of Canada’s largest regional acute care hospitals, is recognized as being the first fully digital hospital in North America.

The 656 inpatient bed facility features some of the most advanced healthcare technology on the market today – from delivery robots that pick up supplies and deliver to specific rooms to voice recognition charting for care providers. The hospital also utilizes automated, multilingual way finding kiosks for patients and visitors, the latest in robotic interventional radiology equipment, and drug management systems that count, organize and check expiration dates of medications.

In addition, the hospital has implemented automated systems and technologies as drivers of patient care enhancements, which creates an environment for staff and physicians to provide high-quality, safe care efficiently. This approach supports Humber River Hospital’s desire to nurture patient and family-centered care in a building that will be relevant not just for today, but for the next 20 years and more as technology and care pathways evolve.

“Congratulations to Humber River for building one of the most innovative, technologically advanced hospitals in the world,” said Dr. Niels Erik Hansen, president and CEO of ARxIUM. “The hospital utilizes a wide array of leading automation and robotics to provide for patient and workplace experiences like no other. It’s extremely gratifying that our award-winning RIVA compounding system is part of such a futuristic facility.”

RIVA, a fully automated compounding system that prepares syringes and IV bags in an aseptic ISO Class 5 environment, was recently recognized as category leader in “Pharmacy Automation: IV Robots” by independent healthcare research firm KLAS. The top ranking was announced in its “2015 Best in KLAS: Medical Equipment & Infrastructure” report. RIVA’s overall score of 87.1 was the highest for IV robots evaluated and ranked more than 20 percent higher than its closest competitor.

ARxIUM will be exhibiting (booth 2213) its award-winning technology and solutions, including RIVA, at the 2015 ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting at New Orleans from December 7 to 10. Attendees will have the opportunity to see live product demonstrations and speak with the company leadership team and subject matter experts.
